From May 23 to 25, the finals of the 19th “Challenge Cup” Shanghai College Students’ Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Works Competition were successfully held on Songjiang Campus, hosted by SUES and co-organized by Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Communist Youth League, Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission, Shanghai Association for Science and Technology, Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, and Shanghai Students’ Federation. This year’s competition attracted a record-breaking 9,865 project submissions from 81,546 students.
On May 25, the closing ceremony was held, along with themed presentations for the 2025 China Youth May Fourth Medal and the New Era Youth Pioneer Award. Distinguished guests including Academician Qing Fengling from Chinese Academy of Sciences, Wang Jiang, Deputy Secretary of Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Communist Youth League, and Vice President Xu Yang of SUES, attended the event.
During the ceremony, Wang Jiang presented the Special Contribution Award to SUES.
In his speech, Vice President Xu Yang extended warm greetings to all student innovators and expressed sincere gratitude to Shanghai Youth League Committee for its longstanding support of the youth work at SUES. He emphasized that SUES will continue to leverage the “Challenge Cup” as a powerful platform to cultivate fertile ground for nurturing innovative and entrepreneurial talents through multiple approaches. Efforts will also be made to enhance students’ innovative capabilities and vitality, and to advance the transformation of student projects into “golden seeds” of technological innovation and socio-economic development.
A total of 14 projects from SUES advanced to the city finals, winning 2 Grand Prizes, 4 First Prizes, 3 Second Prizes, and 5 Third Prizes — setting a new historical record in both the number of awarded projects and total score. SUES once again won the prestigious “Victory Cup”.Specifically, The Grand Prizes were awarded to the team led by Chen Aihong from School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, and the team led by Huang Zexin from School of Urban Railway Transportation. The First Prizes went to the teams led by Xu Xinyuan (School of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering), Yu Xiaolu (School of Management Studies), Li Chunsi (School of Materials Science and Engineering), and Pu Xuexiang (School of Urban Railway Transportation).The Second Prizes were awarded to the teams led by Jiang Junjie (School of Management Studies), Chen Zhongyuan (School of Materials Science and Engineering), and Zhang Chenxi (School of Textiles and Fashion).The Third Prizes were earned by the teams led by Tian Lei (School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering), Lin Wenkun (School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering), Chen Siyu (School of Air Transportation/School of Flying), Cao Bin (School of Higher Vocational Education), and Zhou Dan (School of Marxism).
