On the afternoon of November 10th, Mr. Syed Farizal Aminy Bin Syed, Consul General of Malaysia in Shanghai, Zheng Jingbo, former general manager of Malaysia Branch of Bank of China, and Zhang Zhen, liaison officer of Malaysian Consulate General in Shanghai, visited SUES. Yu Tao, president, and Xia Chunming, vice president of SUES, met with the visiting guests, accompanied by Wang Qin, director of the International Cooperation and Exchange Department, Zhou Xiaozhou, deputy director, and heads of the relevant faculties.

President Yu Tao extended a warm welcome to the Consul General and his delegation and briefly introduced the overall situation of SUES, including its development history, mission and objective, education mode, long-term goal and internationalization. He said that Malaysia is an important partner of China in Southeast Asia along the Belt and Road. The shared culture, the tradition of mutual trust and the stable diplomatic relations between China and Malaysia have enabled the two sides to have a broad space for educational cooperation. SUES can establish extensive contacts with Malaysian universities and enterprises to carry out in-depth educational exchanges and cooperation, which is in line with the Belt and Road Initiative.

Vice-President Xia Ming said that Malaysia's industrial development needs a lot of technical talents, and the training system of engineering professionals in SUES can match it well. At the same time, the sustainable development of China-Malaysia economic and trade relations also urgently needs all kinds of international compound talents. In the future, the two sides can cooperate in double-degree programs for students, training of non-academic talents, Chinese language programs, exchange and mutual visits of teachers, joint scientific research, university-enterprise cooperation, and joint construction of engineer bases, etc., so as to cultivate talents that are in short supply in society and industry.

Consul General Syed expressed sincere gratitude to SUES for its meticulous arrangement and warm reception, and highly appreciated and recognized its education philosophy, teaching and research achievements of engineering disciplines and education mode. He said that Malaysia attaches great importance to its cooperative relations with China, and under the new situation, both sides need to strengthen educational cooperation and exchanges more closely. He introduced the industrial structure and development status of Malaysia. Malaysia attaches great importance to the development of railway transportation, intelligent manufacturing, artificial intelligence and other fields, which are highly in line with the professional setting of SUES, and there is great potential for cooperation between the two sides. At the same time, he also put forward guiding suggestions for the Malaysian Ambassador to China to visit SUES and expressed his positive will to cooperate with the University.

Mr. Syed and his delegation also visited the laboratories and research centers of School of Air Transportation (School of Flying), School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, School of Urban Railway Transportation, School of Textiles and Fashion, and International Institute of Creative Design, and had in-depth communication with program leaders of related disciplines. The two sides reached a consensus on the follow-up cooperation plan, which laid a good foundation for the follow-up SUES visit of the Malaysian Ambassador to China.
