On November 20, SUES international students and teachers from School of Textile and Fashion stepped into the Shanghai Textiles Museum (Shtexm) and M50 Creative Park to taste the aesthetics of life and appreciate the culture of textiles and clothing.

In the Shanghai Textile Museum, visitors took a tour to each exhibition hall in turn for a bite of the textile culture formed over thousands of years. Visitors saw the brilliant achievements of Shanghai textile industry and the spirit of industrialists in the Hall of Essence, studied fiber knowledge and modern textile technology in the Hall of Knowledge, and learnt about the history of textile machinery and the spirit of model workers in the Thematic Hall. The students participated in DIY activities, tried the entire procedure of pre-processing, digital printing and post-processing, and customized their favorite patterns on T-shirts or bags. They also walked into the demonstration room to enjoy the artistic effects of different blue dyeing methods, experienced tie-dyeing techniques under the guidance of museum instructors and created their own unique tie-dyed handkerchiefs.

In the M50 Creative Park, located at 50 Moganshan Road, visitors can feel the charm brought forth by the integration of old textile factories and modern art. They visited eight galleries, saw the latest exhibitions UPUPUP and Preparing for Tomorrow for an inspiration of students’ creative ideas. The students and teachers experienced brushless painting. They also learnt about color matching skills and production methods and created unique fluid painting artworks.

On the way back, the international students were full of praise for this activity, thinking that this tour was highly interactive and rich in content. It allowed them to appreciate not only the profound heritage, but also the long-lasting prosperity of Shanghai’s textile and clothing industry.
