From March 31 to April 2, Juan Carlos Holgado, director of the competition department of the International University Sports Federation (FISU), Liu Wenzhi, commissioner of Futsal team of the China University Student Sports Association, and his delegation came to SUES to investigate the preparations for the 2024 World University Futsal Championship. Chen Fugui, Deputy Secretary General of Shanghai Football Association Competition and department specialist Cao Qiang accompanied the inspection.
Yu Tao, President and Deputy Secretary of SUES Party Committee, Zhu Xiaoqing, Vice President of SUES, and other leaders met with representatives of the International University Sports Federation, China Association of Major League Baseball and Shanghai Football Association. President Yu Tao warmly welcomed the arrival of the inspection representatives, stating that in 2019, SUES successfully applied to host the World University Futsal Championship, which is a major event and joyous event in the history of SUES’s career development. Over the past three years, SUES has done a lot of preparatory work and is confident and determined to host an exciting and outstanding World University Futsal Championship. Both sides also exchanged views on other affairs related to the preparation of the event.
At the inspection meeting, Zhu Xiaoqing, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Vice President of SUES, introduced to the representatives about SUES’s Futsal development and competition preparation work, and stated that SUES will strictly abide by the bidding commitments and further refine and implement various preparation tasks in accordance with the work requirements of the International University Sports Federation and the China Association of Major Athletics. SUES will take the 2024 FIFA World University Student Championship as an opportunity to further leverage the characteristics of its FIFA program and gather efforts to provide a good competition platform.
Mr. Horgado expressed his appreciation for SUES’s proactive and efficient preparation work. He introduced the precautions for the next stage of the competition preparation work, stating that the International Football Federation will strengthen communication and coordination with the Chinese Football Association and universities, jointly promote the preparation work of the competition, and look forward to the successful completion of the World University Futsal Championship held in SUES in 2024.
At the technical and preparatory meetings for the competition, Chen Fugui, Deputy Secretary General of the Shanghai Football Association, exchanged ideas with the International Football Federation on the schedule and technical work. Zhang Jianxin, Director of the Sports Teaching Department, provided a detailed report on the preparation work of the event to officials of the International Federation of Athletics from the aspects of organizing committee structure, event emblem, accommodation, transportation, venues, volunteers, logistics support, news publicity, and event promotion. The attendees exchanged details on the preparation of the event.
Officials from the International Federation of Trade Unions visited the technical conference venue, sports hall, and the ongoing building of a stormy playground on campus. There were site inspections conducted at the Songjiang Sports Center, Shanghai University Sports Center, Donghua University Sports Center, and Guangfulin Ruins Park. Also, there were inspections conducted at the hotels that would be used for the event during the competition and training.
With the strong support of the China University Sports Association, Shanghai Education Commission, and Shanghai University Sports Association, SUES successfully won the hosting rights of the 18th World University Futsal Championship on December 9, 2019. The tournament will be held at SUES from June 10 to 16, 2024.
