A total of 111 teams from 110 universities, including Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, gathered for a fierce three-day competition. The SUES team composed of Sun Di, Gong Wenlong and Luo Wenxuan, directed by Yan Xilin, a teacher from School of Urban Railway Transportation, stood out for their innovative design and excellent model making and won the first prize in this competition. This is the first time SUES has won a national first prize in the civil engineering competitions. It is also a major breakthrough in the field of engineering practice education for SUES.

Jointly approved by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance, the National Structure Design Competition for College Students is a part of the first patch of nationally funded competition projects for nine major disciplines. The competition, known as “the brightest pearl on the crown of civil engineering”, adheres to the guiding principles of “Creativity, Cooperation and Construction” and “justice, fairness and openness”, and the idea of “showing talent, improving competence, cultivating cooperation and enjoying process”.

Winning the award is not only a major achievement of the teaching and scientific research work of School of Urban Railway Transportation, but also an affirmation and demonstration of the comprehensive quality training of our students. In the field of structure design, SUES will continue to make full use of the advantages of civil engineering disciplines, and cultivate high-quality applied civil engineering talents with innovative consciousness and engineering practice ability for the country.
