On the morning of May 24th, the 2023 Sports Meet was grandly opened on the West Athletic Field of Songjiang Campus. Party Secretary of the University, Li Jiang, President Yu Tao, Deputy Secretary Shi Jianyong, Vice Presidents Zhu Xiaoqing, Wang Yansong, Xia Chunming, teacher representatives from relevant departments and student representatives from all schools attended the opening ceremony. The opening ceremony was presided over by Vice President Zhu Xiaoqing.
Secretary Li Jiang announced the opening of the 2023 Shanghai University of Engineering Science Sports Meet.
President Yu Tao put forward three expectations for all the teachers and students: to enhance stamina, to pursue excellence, and to practice fair competition. He hoped that all athletes could compete fairly, and all judges could judge fairly. Together, he hoped to create a sports event where “the young could embrace dreams and strive for brilliance”.
Vice President Zhu Xiaoqing presided over the opening ceremony of the Sports Meet.
Zhang Qinghang from School of Urban Railway Transportation swore on behalf of all the athletes that they would take part in the sports meet with a positive, dedicated and enthusiastic attitude, respect the judges, respect the opponents and abide by the rules in the game, and show great style in the game. Zhang Zhe, a national soccer referee and also a teacher of Physical Education Department, swore on behalf of all the referees that they would resolutely obey the command of the chief referee, strictly abide by the rules of the competition, be fair, just and open, and complete all the refereeing work successfully.
After the opening ceremony, participating teachers and students engaged in intense and exciting competitions in athletics, individual group events, and group events. Zhang Yuanshen from School of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering broke the university record for the men’s 1500m run with a time of 4’27”18; Chen Yong from School of Textiles and Fashion, Bai Jiaqi from School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, and Zhang Yuanshen from School of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering broke the men’s 3000m record with scores of 10’00”16, 10’05”00, and 10’11”03, respectively.
