On the afternoon of August 15th, Xie Dong, Vice Mayor of Shanghai, visited SUES for inspection and research. Wang Ping, Deputy Secretary-General of the Municipal Government, Zhou Yaming, Director of Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, Li Jiang, Secretary of the CPC SUES Committee, Yu Tao, President of SUES, and members of SUES's leadership board participated in the research and discussion.
During the meeting, Vice Mayor Xie Dong affirmed that Shanghai University of Engineering Science has adhered to the orientation of university-enterprise cooperation and industry-education integration as an application-oriented university for many years, closely aligned with the national strategy, actively served the regional economy, and made remarkable achievements in the development of various undertakings. She hopes that SUES will adhere to the distinctive university-running positioning and further strengthen the construction of local application-oriented university. In addition, she hopes SUES will vigorously strengthen the construction of disciplines, further condense the characteristics of disciplines, more closely meet industrial needs, and more effectively serve local economic and social development. She indicated that the Shanghai Municipal Government will always support the characteristic development and high-level discipline construction of SUES, meanwhile the Municipal Government will coordinate the resources of all parties to fully support SUES to run the 2024 World University Futsal Championship.
On behalf of SUES, Li Jiang, Secretary of the CPC SUES Committee, expressed his gratitude to the municipal government for the long-term concern and support for SUES. Secretary Li pointed out that in recent years, SUES has adhered to the combination of reform and innovation, grasped the in-depth implementation of the three major development strategies, and the comprehensive strength of SUES has been rising rapidly. Meanwhile, Secretary Li pointed that SUES has adhered to the combination of mission and function, grasp and improve the development strategy of serving the national and Shanghai development strategy, and reflect the mission of SUES in the construction of powerful country through education.
President Yu Tao made a report on SUES's work, and he comprehensively reported on the SUES's talent training, scientific research, discipline construction, team building, infrastructure projects, industry-education integration and international development from the perspectives of adhering to SUES's positioning of building a large project and insisting on opening up to build a new pattern. President Yu pointed out that SUES will firmly adhere to the application-oriented university-running positioning, inherit and carry forward the tradition and advantages of the integration of industry and education, gather high-quality resources with an open attitude, and promote the high-quality development of SUES.
During the meeting, the leaders at SUES also reported to the city leaders on the construction of doctoral degrees granting institution and key construction projects of SUES.
Before the meeting, Vice Mayor Xie Dong conducted field research on the Shanghai Collaborative Innovation Center for Data Intelligence Technology and Application, listened to the progress report of the major special research on science and technology innovation 2030 new generation artificial intelligence undertaken by the center. She also acquainted with the research and development and application of iClass smart teaching platform at SUES. Vice Mayor Xie Dong and her entourage also inspected SUES's human-machine and environmental engineering technology research center and the self-developed Boeing 737-800 simulator.
