In December 2022, after 20 years of development, the Sino-Korean School of Multimedia Design of SUES was successfully upgraded to International Institute of Creative Design (IICD), a non-independent Sino-foreign cooperative institute, realizing another leap in Sino-Korean cooperation in running schools. On September 19, 2023, the International Institute of Creative Design held the first opening ceremony of new students at the second lecture hall of the graphic information center. Li Jiang, Secretary of the CPC SUES Committee, Professor Yu Tao, Deputy Secretary of the CPC SUES Committe, Wang Yansong and Xia Chunming, Vice Presidents, Lim Kyeongho, President of Kongju National University, South Korea, Chang Jekuk, President of Dongseo University, South Korea, heads of relevant functional offices such as the Graduate Office, the Recruitment Office, and the Student Office, as well as all the freshmen of IICD, attended the ceremony. The ceremony was chaired by Vice President Xia Chunming.
On behalf of SUES, Li Jiang, Secretary of the CPC SUES Committee, presented letters of appointment to Professor Kim Chongki of the International Institute of Creative Design, Professor Kim Chongki of Dongseo University, Professor Kyung Byungpyo of Kungju National University, Head of Korean Major, Professor Kim Donghyun of Dongseo University, and Professor Kim Wonseok of Kungju National University. It marks the official entry of the Korean deans and heads of programs into the Institute, which provides a strong leadership guarantee for the characteristics of international school-running in the top-level design, and also represents the further improvement of international school-running level of the Institute, providing students with a broader space for academic exchanges and international cooperation.
President Yu Tao extended a warm welcome to the Korean guests and new students. He put forward three expectations for the freshmen as follows: first, they should adhere to the integration of theory and practice, be diligent and realistic, and integrate knowledge and action; Second, it is necessary to have an international vision, be inclusive, and be a messenger of cultural exchanges; Third, they must cherish their youth, study hard, and become the pillars of national development in the new era. He hoped that the freshmen would show their talents and make their dreams come true.
President Lim Kyung-ho of Kungju National University highly affirmed the characteristics of SUES, the international concept and achievements, and proposed to jointly cultivate professionals who meet the requirements of all fields of future mobile communication technology and industrial design, and hoped that the cooperation between the two universities can achieve more fruitful results in the future.
President Jang Ji-guk of Dongseo University expressed that based on the deep friendship of the three universities and the high compatibility of excellent and advanced educational concepts, International Institute of Creative Design was born, which has written an important stroke in the history of China-Korea higher education cooperation. In three aspects, artificial intelligence technology-aided design, international creative platform, and cultural soft power of design, he encouraged students to bravely accept new challenges and contribute their own strength to social development.
Wang Yansong, Vice President of SUES, placed the badges of IICD on the chests of the freshman representatives. This symbolized that the freshmen officially joined the family of the International Institute of Creative Design. Also, this helped the students to feel and remember the motto of only real art is new, and beauty lies in harmony and integration. In addition, this helped the new students adhere to the educational philosophy of cultivating people with culture and strive to explore knowledge and creative future.
In the speech session of faculty representatives and freshman representatives, Ning Shujia, a professor at IICD, shared his growth experience. As a mixed-blood jointly cultivated by three universities, he was full of emotion, humorous and philosophical words. And the students at the ceremony benefited a lot from his words. Cao Ying, the representative of the freshmen, shared her yearning and expectations for university life. And she shared the oath of the road is long and the road is coming and expressed the spirit of college students in the new era. Finally, she called on all freshmen to get up, embrace their youth, and keep going forward bravely.
The ceremony ended successfully with a group photo of the guests and students, leaving unforgettable memories and wishes for the new students. International Institute of Creative Design will continue to uphold the concept of openness, diversity, inclusiveness and innovation, and is committed to providing each and every student with high-quality educational resources and learning and growth environment. In this way, IICD will contribute new and greater strength to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation in the new era and new journey.
