On September 27th, to further advance the strategy of Building a University Driven by Talent and provide better talent support for the University's high-quality development, SUES hosted the 2023 International Young Scholars Forum. Over a hundred young talents from more than 20 world-renowned institutions, including Nanyang Technological University, the University of Sydney, the California Institute of Technology, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, gathered both online and offline. The Forum was attended by President Yu Tao, Vice President Zhu Xiaoqing, and Wang Qingyu, Director of the Talent Development Division of Shanghai Municipal Education and Health Party Committee. Leaders from the President's Office and relevant schools also participated. The Forum was hosted by Zhang Yuqing, Director of the Human Resources Division and Head of the Talent Office at Shanghai University of Engineering Science.
President Yu Tao, on behalf of SUES, extended a warm welcome to the distinguished guests and young scholars from both domestic and international backgrounds. He provided insights into the University's latest achievements in program accreditation and talent development. Furthermore, he reflected on SUES' 45-year journey in the realm of education, underscoring the pivotal role played by the fusion of academia and industry in its growth.
President Yu Tao enthusiastically invited young talents to become part of the academic community at Shanghai University of Engineering Science. He encouraged them to contribute their expertise towards the University's mission of becoming a leading, high-caliber, and modern applied science and engineering institution in China.
Vice President Zhu Xiaoqing delivered a keynote address, summarizing the University's recent accomplishments in personnel and talent management under the themes of Remembering Our Roots as We Advance, Diligently Pursuing Practical Outcomes, and Seizing Opportunities to Create the Future. Her presentation underscored the University's proactive engagement in developing high-level talent resources and its dedication to advancing strategic talent development initiatives in the new era.
Director Wang Qingyu enthusiastically congratulated the successful organization of this forum. He affirmed the significant progress in SUES' development and its substantial achievements in talent management in recent years. Director Wang Qingyu highlighted three key aspects: innovating talent attraction mechanisms to bring in top talents, refining talent nurturing systems to retain these talents, and cultivating a thriving talent ecosystem that encourages talent development. His words exemplified Shanghai's commitment to welcoming and honoring talents. He expressed the hope that the University would leverage this forum as an opportunity, align closely with SUES' mission and distinctive development focus, and continuously strengthen its talent pool to drive the University's transformative progress.
Professor Yan Yihuan, representing young talents, and Professor Sheng Xiaozhen, a nationally recognized talent, both delivered keynote speeches, sharing their experiences abroad and presenting the significant achievements they have attained during their tenure at SUES. They expressed their aspirations for like-minded young scholars to join the SUES community.
Following the schedule of this Forum, three sub-forums focusing on heavy machinery and new materials were held respectively at the University's Transport Building and Administrative Building. Leading scholars and attending researchers from School of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering, School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, School of Material Engineering, School of Textiles and Fashion, and School of Air Transportation (School of Flying) engaged in in-depth discussions and exchanges on core issues in their current research areas, collectively exploring interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation.
This international young scholars forum, with its focus on nurturing young talents, creating a platform for exchange, and establishing connections, has yielded positive results. It has injected new momentum and vitality into the University, contributing to its leap-forward development.
